This is a very odd game!

Its a combination of several classic gaming ideas and having played it now for quite a while, my opinion on it is changing.

Initially you start off with a few long and very boring cut scenes, which supposedly set up the premise for the title. What they actually do is make you hate the game before it even starts. This is a shame because once you get started the hard work put in by the developers has to overcome this angst before you begin to enjoy the ...

I was just going to leave it as that one word, but I thought it might not convey the utter dross that this waste of a good CD is.

I have played it from start to finish tonight and got the full 1000g and I experienced absolutely zero joy.

Its like a collision between the great Pissy2 game ICO and Super Mario Bros. A collision in which there were no survivors. They have taken the concept of both (you help your co player through different puzzles whilst smashing things ...

If, like me, you do not know the story behind Batman and Arkham Asylum, do not worry. This game certainly gives it to you simply. To start with Batman has caught The Joker and is transporting him in the back of the Batmobile to the asylum.

On entering the asylum in a great opening sequence, there is obviously no way out now for The Joker. However, if you think that, you would be clearly mistaken. This evolves into an elaborate plan set out by The Joker to keep Batman and everyone else within ...

This film tie in seems to offer all of the above.

The film and game are about an inventor who livens up an dreary island by making a machine that rains down food. At first all is well but then things go bad and he has to try and save the day.

Astropop is a game I first played on the PC a while ago.

Its a pretty standard match block to remove style affair that has a few nice touches.

The aim of the game is to clear enough stuff each level to progress through to the next one. Along the way you get an upgrade to your controller every few levels which adds a smart bomb feature. The further you go the more your smart bomb does and the faster it recharges.

There are four distinct sections and the smart bomb does ...

poop.. Utter poop..

for a melee based FPS game, the actual melee combat fails to a degree that is shocking.

At one point a decent distance connects with a punch, yet equally it also fails to make that same connection with another opponent. Equally, the ability to combo attacks together means little when the game states you cant take damage between hits.. that largely includes guard damage... Not that the end result of the combo attack makes much difference to the state of your opponent. ...

God damn you, GTA. Ever since that game came out, game worlds just seem to be getting bigger and bigger. I grew up thinking that the mansion in Jet Set Willy (roughly 80 screens) was huge. These days I could actually live inside the likes of Fuel or Mercenaries 2 and the twenty or so extra hours I spent getting the 'Find All Locations' achievement on Two Worlds (and that's after I completed the entire game) indicated that things weren't going to get any more compact in the near future.

Well, the original version is there and intact, Graphics are as expected, nothing spectacular, but true to the original arcade. Music again as original (which is good, I was humming the tune as the gamed download). Having battled through this tie in, I would say that whilst the film was excellent if a little cheesy, this game is just cheese of the bodily variety.

To give the developer some credit, they have tried to get the game to follow the film quite closely.

Its split into several distinct chapters with ach points being awarded for finishing the chapter and then again for finishing ...

Especially when it comes from the aged devs over at Namco. I mean, they made Pac-Man, Galaga and numerous other iconic arcade titles. That has to be worth something, ...
