MASS EFFECT 2 - A BIOWARE / EA GAME

Mass Effect 2 starts roughly one month after the ending of the first Mass Effect game. You again take control of Shepard, commander of the Normandy spacecraft. In a dramatic opening few minutes the Normandy comes under attack from an unknown enemy ship while out on patrol, and during the subsequent attempts to save the crew, Commander Shepard is killed and the Normandy destroyed. Shepards’ body is retrieved and through the Shadow Broker, obtained by the shadowy organisation Cerberus who then spend the next two years rebuilding Shepard. This is so that Shepard can be recruited by the leader of Cerberus, The Illusive Man, to lead the fight against the newest threat to the universe, The Collectors.

It is at this point that you must choose the class of character that you are going to play as. You must c...

Review: Assassin's Creed 2 - A game by Ubisoft Montreal

Tue Jan 12, 2010 2:10 pm by The Mad Ronin

Assassin's Creed 2, twice as nice?

In November 2007, Ubisoft introduced us to Assassin's Creed a third person action adventure in a similar vein to the Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy with a crazed story so entwined with conspiracy that it would even make David Icke take pause and think “what the...?” … or would it?

Assassin's Creed 101: A history of the creed, a fictional twist on the historical!

Mild mannered bartender Desmond Miles is mysteriously kidnapped by Abstergo Industries for reason best known to themselves. During his incarceration Desmond is used as a guinea pig on a machine known as the Animus. Through this strange device Desmond is able to access the genetic memories of his ancestors (in this case a cheery chap known as Altaïr). Through use of the animus Desmond discovers Altaïr is a member of a strange order ...

GTA VI: The Ballad of Gay Tony Official Review

Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:29 pm by garymason72

GTA VI: The Ballad of Gay Tony

A Rockstar North Game/DLC

In April 2008 shortly before the release of GTA VI Microsoft announced they had paid a reported $50 million for two exclusive pieces of DLC. The first of these was released in Feb. 2009. And proved very popular from release. The lead character is Johnny Klebbitz a member of The Lost and Damned biker group; we followed him into dodgy diamond deals, gang warfare and some less than reputable dealing with the mafia. It was exactly what Liberty City is all about. Following the success of The Lost and Damned Rockstar have released the second DLC called The Ballad of Gay Tony.

The Ballad of Gay Tony sees us returning to Liberty City for another outing, this time we play as Luis Lopez assistant and Business partner to Tony Prince aka Gay Tony, A nightclub owner whose excessive lifestyle has lea...

SAW - A KONAMI GAME

2004 was the year that the world was first introduced to the character Jigsaw in the horror film Saw. Since then the Saw franchise has established itself as the highest grossing horror film franchise of all time, with a yearly instalment of the films based around the character Jigsaw which are infamous for their ingenious and horrific death scenes. Fast forward to 2009 and we have the first video game based on the Saw franchise, with publishers Konami looking to build on their survival horror back catalogue that has so far been dominated by the Silent Hill franchise.

Saw the videogame is set shortly after the events of the first Saw film, with the player taking the role of Detective David Tapp, the character played by Danny Glover in the first film. You start the game waking up in an abandoned ment...

Need For Speed: Shift. An EA Game.

Need for Speed: Shift

An EA game.

Over the last 15 years we have seen 16 different NFS games and up until now they were all based on some form of illegal street racing this is where the most recent incarnation Need for Speed: Shift differs from its predecessors, it’s the first NFS title to be focused on track racing, being a big fan of the series I was really looking forward to seeing how they would take the fun and excitement of illegal racing and transfer it to the track.

The first thing any NFS fan will notice is the lack of a story mode, instead of playing the role of an undercover cop or an outlawed street racer, Shift is all about the driving so the story has given way to a more traditional 'race to unlock harder races' structure, which although being a big departure for the series isn’t a bad thing, it shows a more grown up side of the ...

The Saboteur

Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:14 pm by squiddy

You know, the games industry would explode and undo creation if a World War 2 game wasn't released every couple of months so. Luckily for us, Pandemic Studios have served up a few rocks of that Nazi killing gaming crack that we need to keep us going. Of course, this is the same Pandemic who completely ruined their Mercenaries franchise by following up the brilliantly freeform original with a game so buggy and glitched that you knew they wouldn't be around for long. Unluckily for them, this became true with EA doing their 'buy a dev studio, destroy a dev studio' trick. They were given enough time to finish Saboteur though, even if the marketing budget behind the game wouldn't keep Louis Walsh in rentboys past next weekend.

Sticking to what they know, Pandemic have offered up yet another sandbox title here. You play the part of the imaginitively-named Irishman Sean Devlin. H...

Dragon Age: Origins Review - A Bioware game

Dragon Age Origins Review

Developed by Bioware

Published by Electronic Arts

Review by Ba5sett

Dragon Age: Origins is the latest RPG from masters of the genre Bioware. The Canadian developers have been responsible for games such as the Baldur’s gate series, Neverwinter Night’s, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Mass Effect. This is their first ‘Fantasy’ RPG since the excellent Neverwinter Night‘s back in 2002 so expectations for this new title are high.

Dragon age: Origins is set in the land of Ferelden which is unfortunate enough to suffer a ‘Blight’ every few hundred years where the land is attacked by hordes of nasty creatures called ‘Darkspawn’ the land is protected from the Darkspawn by a group of elite warriors known as the Grey Wardens who specialise in eliminating the Dar...

WET - A BETHESDA SOFTWORKS GAME

Sun Sep 27, 2009 3:27 pm by niteowl1980

This game opens with a single simple sentence – Wet (wetworks) A euphemism alluding to hands literally wet with blood. This serves as a perfect introduction to the game where you play Rubi Malone, a sassy gun for hire who follows the money rather than any strict moral code.

You are thrown straight into the action via a tutorial level before getting any story. The tutorial level introduces the way you will be using slow mo and aerobatics throughout the game. The focus is very much geared towards achieving the most stylish kills possibly. Whenever you enter slow motion then Rubi dual wields her weapon with one gun automatically targeting a near enemy leaving you to control the aiming of the second weapon. This seemed a very strange concept to me when I first started playing but this really allows you freedom in shooting and allows you to target...

FORZA MOTORSPORT 3 OFFICIAL GSA REVIEW

Thu Oct 22, 2009 10:19 pm by Kent Hammer

Forza Motorsport 3
a Microsoft and Turn 10 game.

Anybody that knows me will be only too aware that I love my racing games! So when I received this game from Microsoft last week, I was very excited to get started on what has turned out to be a wonderful and exciting passage of discovery. To say that doing this review has been a labour of love would be an understatement.

OK, OK, enough gushing from me for now, lets get down to the nuts and bolts of it.
This is the follow up game to 2007's smash hit game of the year Forza Motorsport 2.
A game that was close to all our hearts here at GSA, as it was one of the first games that brought us all together as a community and many many race nights followed.

So let me start by telling you what's new and on offer this time around. Quite simply the game has been improved upon and tweaked in ...

Borderlands - A Gearbox Software / 2K Game

BORDERLANDS - A GEARBOX SOFTWARE / 2K GAME

October is always a busy time for the games industry as the years blockbusters fill shop shelves and try to tempt us to part with our hard earned cash. This year in the same release window as Forza, Fifa and PES comes Borderlands, the latest game from Gearbox, published by 2K Games, which is trying to jostle for a place in the collection of hardcore gamers everywhere.

Set on the planet Pandora the basic premise of the game is that, playing as one of four different character classes (either Brick the berserker, Roland the soldier, Lilith the siren or Mordecia the hunter) you are searching for the mythical Vault, rumoured to be the location of alien technology that is only accessible once every 200 years. The Atlas Corporation, having harnessed such power found on another planet, is the ruling power of Pan...

Velvet Assassin a SouthPeak game

Sat May 30, 2009 10:59 pm by Kent Hammer

Gamerscore Addicts official review of "Velvet Assassin" a SouthPeak game.

Firstly many thanks to SouthPeak Games for sending us this review copy.

Velvet assassin is a full on stealth game featuring the sexy British spy Violette Summer.

Miss Summer's voice does remind me hugely of Lara Croft but she has shorter more wavy hair and has a very slinky figure with a bottom that often hypnotises the gamer when they really should be focussing on the job in hand rather than watching a leather clad bottom arching its way over another wire fence.

To distract you even further there are many dreamlike cut scenes where we see Violette running around in a very short and wispy nightie, but I digress.....back to the story.

Violette is way behind German enemy lines in...

James Cameron's Avatar - An Ubisoft Game.

JAMES CAMERON’S AVATAR – AN UBISOFT GAME

With James Cameron’s Avatar being yet another adaptation of a yet to be released blockbuster movie, you would be forgiven for assuming that like most movie to game spinoffs, the game might not be very well made. You would be wrong to stereotype Avatar like that. Ubisoft have done an amazing job throughout the whole game, graphically in my eyes it is flawless. The sound is realistic and there is always something to do. While playing this I never felt bored and the hours just rolled away.

Ubisoft have actually developed the first 3-D console game which has been in development for the past 3 years. However take caution with this statement as to be able to receive the 3-D effects the TV must be equipped with Stereoscopy.

Set on the colourful and...

Section 8 reviewed by Christopher Henderson

Being asked to review Section 8 was a bit of a thrill for me, as I love futuristic shooters. As most 20 something’s, I spent most of my teens glued to my PC playing Quake 2. So I was looking forward to playing the multiplayer on Section 8, I will elude to that later in the review. First a bit of background….

Brutal Legend - An EA Game

Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:26 pm by niteowl1980

Brutal Legend is the latest game from Tim Schafer, the designer behind Psychonauts, Grim Fandango and The Secret of Monkey Island. A project that Schafer has been trying to get completed since just after the much-lauded Psychonauts hit the Xbox back in 2005.

The main draw point of this game is the involvement of Jack Black who voices the main character Eddie Riggs. A veteran roadie who sees his place in life to live in the shadows, saving the day for metal bands without ever being noticed. After an accident during a metal gig where he is knocked down by a piece of falling stage, he wakes up in an alternate dimension where his roadie skills will truly be tested freeing an enslaved human race from the evil Lord Doviculus and winning over the love of the female lead Ophelia, armed with an axe, The Separator, and your trusty guitar, Clementine.

You can choose how to...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, An Activision Game

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
An Activision Game

As one of the most anticipated games of 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a lot to do if it is to meet with expectation. I must admit I have held the Infinity Ward titles from the series up as shining lights of how a game should be but will they continue to impress with their 4 addition to the series.

When you load up the game you a greeted with the 3 game options available for you to play and enjoy. These are the single player story mode, co-op Special Ops mode and the much loved multiplayer mode.

Single Player:

The single player story picks up 5 years after the events of Modern Warfare. Gameplay here is familiar to anyone that has played the first. You begin with the usual training area which gives you a layout of the control scheme and gi...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 an Activision title

Sat Oct 03, 2009 5:55 pm by Kent Hammer

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2 REVIEW

I was really looking forward to reviewing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (MUA2) ever since I heard Activision were sending us a copy.

Firstly I must be honest and say that I am not a big Marvel fan and have never read a comic book in my life! But I am a huge gaming fan and have really enjoyed watching all the recent movies. So this review will focus on the gameplay and fun factor rather than any huge back stories or tales how certain characters came to be.

I did worry that I wouldn't know many of the superheroes at all, but soon realised all the familiar favourites were here- Iron man, Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, X-men and even Hulk, I will give you the full list later.

This time around the game focusses on the Civil war storyline from the Marvel multiverse. Basically Nick Fury makes a covet attack...

Rise of the Argonauts a Codemaster game

Thu Apr 02, 2009 7:00 pm by Kent Hammer

Gamerscore Addicts official review of "Rise of the Argonauts" a Codemasters game.

This game was kindly donated to the forum for review by the guys at Codemasters.

Ok firstly let me say upfront I have my own style to reviewing games and will hopefully avoid giving away any plot
twists as that could ruin a fun play thru of such a story focussed action RPG game.

This is a great example of a game that requires time and effort to be enjoyed to its fullest.
I managed to get 665/1000 achievement points with one play thru of the game on legendary setting.
There are also 2 other lower difficulty settings, but as they are stackable I suggest going for Legend right from the start.

Being blunt there are two main problems that this game suffers from, firstly its seriously chat and convers...

Mad Catz Modern Warfare 2 wired controller

Mad Catz Modern Warfare 2 wired controller

Firstly many thanks to our friends at Mad Catz for sending us this Modern Warfare 2 themed controller.

I must start this review by saying that Microsoft does not allow any 3rd parties to make wireless controllers and this is the reason you won't find any whining from me about this fact here.

I am solely comparing this controller with the existing wired official Microsoft pads.

Right, waffle over lets get down to it recruit!

First thing I noticed on my lengthy testing process ( I completed the whole campaign using it) was the new triggers!
They look much more like real gun triggers with a larger range of motion and a slightly curved design.
What is even more awesome is the fact that they are also great on Forza 3 as they give ab...

Left 4 Dead 2 - A Valve game

Tue Dec 01, 2009 12:03 am by DonWeir

Hey guys, DonWeir here with a review of Left 4 Dead 2

Ok, now let’s get down into the hard facts about the game. L4D2 now comes with two new modes along with the original three from the first game, bringing the total to five immense modes, you have:

Campaign – this is where you play as one of the survivors in any level online.

Single player – this is where you play as one of the survivors in any level offline.

Realism – this adds a certain realistic edge to the game by making the zombies harder to kill, the items don’t glow, health becomes a very vital issue and so does ammo when facing the horde. Also in this mode team work is the most vital thing of all when playing hard or expert difficulties.

Versus – this is the same as the previous game with up to eight players taking part as either the survivors or ...
